A report into an assault and a possible kidnapping at an arcade in Charlotte, North Carolina, resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the confiscation of illegal gambling machines.
Earlier this week, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) uncovered details regarding an operation that took place at a local arcade where dozens of illegal gambling machines were uncovered.
Initially, law enforcement responded to a report of an assault and a possible kidnapping.
However, upon arriving on site at Lucky Seven Arcade on 5105 Reagan Dr., police uncovered illegal gambling devices.
CMPD received assistance from its Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Unit ,which uncovered that the gambling machines that were present at the business were operating illegally, thus violating the state's gambling regulatory framework.
A statement released by the CMPD reads: "Officers observed illegal gaming machines inside the business and, with the assistance of CMPD’s Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Unit, an investigation revealed that the gaming machines at Lucky Seven Arcade were in violation of North Carolina gambling laws."
Law enforcement uncovered and seized a total of 55 illegal gambling stations at the arcade venue.
Close to $24,000 in US currency, as well as electronic equipment and other devices required for the operation of the illegal casino, were also seized.
Besides illegal gambling machines and cash, CMPD discovered and seized three firearms.
As noted, the raid resulted in the arrest of two employees of the arcade, as announced by law enforcement.
The two suspects are facing felony and misdemeanor charges related to gambling.
"CMPD remains committed to protecting public safety by investigating and dismantling illegal gambling operations that often pose a risk to the surrounding community," the CMPD added.
Police did not confirm if there are further suspects involved in the illegal gambling business.
