A fortunate player in Michigan who picked a scratch-off ticket completely at random was pleasantly surprised by a hefty win.

On Thursday, the Michigan Lottery confirmed that a Lenawee County man scored a life-changing prize from its Safe Cracker Cashword instant game.

Randomly selected ticket pays out $300K

The lucky player, who decided to remain anonymous, won the first top prize from the scratch-off game for a sweet $300,000 payday.

The lottery player purchased his winning ticket at Busch’s at 1450 West Chicago Boulevard in Tecumseh.

Considering that the fortunate winner decided to remain anonymous, it is likely that his identity will forever remain a mystery.

Still, the lucky player recently visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his big win and spoke to a representative of the Lottery.

When asked about his plans for the newfound fortune, the man admitted that he intends to invest the winnings.

Recalling the day he purchased the winning ticket, the winner said: "I play all of the different instant games, so Safe Cracker Cashword just happened to be the game I randomly picked out that day while I was at the store."

The 58-year-old winner admitted to buying the ticket and scratching off its barcode right away.

Once he scanned the Safe Cracker Cashword instant game ticket, the scanner displayed a message to file a claim with the Michigan Lottery.

Wondering what might have happened, the winner then decided to play the game itself.

"I couldn’t believe it when I revealed 10 words for a $300,000 prize! It was a great feeling," he admitted.

More than $21m in prizes remain in play from Safe Cracker Cashword

Lottery players in Michigan who decide to try their luck with the $5 Safe Cracker Cashword instant game can win a prize between $5 and a top prize of $300,000.

After the recent top win, now, two more prizes of $300,000 each remain in play.

The scratch-off ticket also grants players to win tier-two and tier-three prizes of $1,000 and $500 respectively, along with a range of prizes smaller in size.

The overall odds of winning any prize from the Michigan Lottery's Safe Cracker Cashword instant game are 1 in 3.67.

Since the ticket's launch in December, players have won more than $14m in prizes.

With that in mind, more than $21m in prizes remain in play from the Safe Cracker Cashword instant game.
