Three weeks remain until East Africa’s flagship gaming industry event reconvenes once again. The 10th Annual Sports Betting East Africa+ Summit. Hosted out of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the event will reunite C-level executives and established regional leaders who will impart their knowledge and help shape the dialogue about the industry’s future on May 20-21, 2025.
The Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel will reunite some of the most impactful industry figureheads. Ahead of the upcoming event, Eventus International spoke with Peter Mshikilwa Mukandi, President of the Esports Federation of Tanzania, with whom it discussed the growth of esports as part of the betting ecosystem and what this means for stakeholders in general.
"Esports is more than just gaming it encompasses a wide range of transferable skills: digital literacy and ICT, critical thinking and problem solving, entrepreneurship and content creation, and opportunities beyond playing."
Mukandi spoke about the demographics that make the esports segment such an important part, with rising demand for infrastructure – from gaming hubs and internet cafes to dedicated trading centers, which means that activities such as influencer-led marketing powered by gamers and streamers are also gathering momentum.
Esports is growing rapidly across Africa’s regions, with the continent now having the world’s youngest population. This is why stakeholders need to ensure that youth have access to resources through talent development and sponsorship, argues Mukandi. He will be participating in SBEA+ Summit 2025’s Esports and Youth Empowerment, where he will further flesh out his ideas about the vertical and how sector companies can benefit further.
At the same time, the SBEA+ Summit will also feature the eponymous Eventus Awards Ceremony, which is due to take place on May 20, 2025, and distinguish exceptional companies and individuals. Nominations are set to close on May 9, 2025, but there is still time to nominate a professional or entity you want to back up.
For those who are hoping to win an entry, this is also a possibility – Eventus International is running a five-part digital competition inviting industry professionals to share their insights about the future of gaming in the region.
The competition runs weekly across the Eventus International platforms and offers a complimentary ticket for stakeholders who contribute thoughtful and relevant responses. To participate, anyone interested should to join Eventus International’s Telegram community and share the weekly challenge in the feed or stories, tagging he official page.
