The 2025 Gaming in Spain Conference has confirmed that Director General of Spain’s Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling, Mikel Arana, will be the keynote for the upcoming event due to take place on June 26, 2025, in Madrid.
Bringing the country’s top regulator to the floor is an important milestone for the event, lending on it credence, and also increasing its impact. Arana will focus on bringing light on the latest regulatory developments and explain what obligations stakeholders have.
His appearance comes at a very important time, as an ongoing debate about tough advertising rules are likely to take a new turn. Strong advertising rules were overturned by Spain’s Supreme Court, but the government seems poised to reintroduce them as part of a new public health law.
These changes will have a far-reaching impact on the regulated market in Spain, with part of the discussions focusing on the measures, the logic behind them, and whether they will meet their intended mark – reduce gambling-related harm or, conversely, push more people into the black market.
The topic, among others will be addressed by dignitaries such as: Jorge Hinojosa, Director General, JDigital; Xavi Mu?oz, Partner, ECIJA; Camille Gonzálvez, Gambling Lawyer, ECIJA; and Josh Hodgson, COO, H2 Gambling Capital.
The event will also feature dedicated LatAm sessions, which will broach topics about important regional markets, such as Brazil, Colombia, and Peru.
Willem van Oort, Founder of Gaming in Spain, commented that he was looking forward to the upcoming event and said:
"Although Spain remains, of course, the focus of our event, I am very glad that we are also looking a bit farther this year. For Spain-facing operators, LatAm is an exciting region to consider for expansion. Happily, we have speakers who are fully updated on local regulations and market conditions."
