  • As black market operations continue to thrive in the Netherlands, Gaming in Holland will focus on the hard facts about the segment
  • Many of the discussions will focus on analyzing the size and projected growth of the black market
  • Licensed operators and industry experts will speak from experience as to what stakeholders can do to limit the clout of such offshore companies

The Gaming in Holland Conference that is due to take place on Thursday, June 5, 2025, is now fast-approaching with the event seeking to address some of the most pressing challenges that the Dutch iGaming and sports betting industries face.

Addressing black market operations at the core of the Gaming in Holland Conference agenda

Among those is the fact that unlicensed operators in the country have been able to capture an estimated 50% of the gross gaming revenue that is generated online, posing a significant threat to the licensed market, which has been subjected to stringent regulations that have clipped its ability to compete with some of these operators.

The event, due to take place on Thursday, June 5, will now seek to bring clarity to these important discussions. Many of the discussions taking place next week will focus squarely on how to prevent the further expansion of black-market operations and how its current clout may be weakened. Some of the noteworthy discussions include:

  • Nederlandse Loterij CEO, Arjan Blok, who will talk about his company’s legal proceedings against LalaBet, a Costa Rica-based operator
  • Renske Fikkers, Head of Market Supervision at the Netherlands Gambling Authority who will share insight on what ways the regulator uses to combat illegal gambling
  • Josh Hodgson, COO of H2 Gambling Capital, who will dive into the latest estimations for the size of the offshore online market, as well as present projections about its future growth
  • Henk Willem Smits, a journalist from Follow the Money, who will talk about the ownership structures of black-market operators
  • Christian Heins, Director iGaming at Tipico, who will argue the case for licensed operators and how they can hurt illegal competitors by weighing in more heavily on B2B suppliers

Among the sessions that will be worth visiting in person are such options as:

  • B2B licensing for the Dutch market? (Magno Neiva, Head of Compliance, Altenar)
  • Bonuses, promotional games & player protection: Navigating the regulatory landscape (Joris Crone, Lawyer, Franssen Tolboom Advocaten)
  • Elevating the player journey: Sustainable growth through responsible engagement (Janez Dov?an, Commercial Director, PAM - Turnkey Solutions, Bragg Gaming Group)
  • Platform technology in the Netherlands (Brian Forth, Commercial Director, Finnplay Technologies)
  • Lessons learned from compliance testing in the Netherlands (Sander Hoogendoorn, Business Development Manager, Trisigma)

Amid the discussions and panels, attendees will similarly have the opportunity to attend the traditional boat tour through Amsterdam’s picturesque canals.
