A retiree in Maryland, who gave a FAST PLAY game a try, was shocked by a life-changing jackpot prize.

Earlier this week, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that a Charles County resident won the FAST PLAY Gold Rush Progressive jackpot for a $2,041,396 payday.

The winning ticket was purchased at Mutt’s Liquors at 4541 Indian Head Highway in Indian Head.

After selling the top prize-winning ticket, the retailer will benefit from a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

While the Lottery confirmed that the Charles County man won the top prize, it also said that the fortunate winner decided to remain anonymous, and his identity will likely forever remain a mystery.

The winner spoke to an official with the Lottery, revealing that after purchasing the ticket at the liquor store, he decided to scan it.

Scanning the ticket, the man saw a message asking him to go to the Maryland Lottery. Confused, the winner and his wife went back home.

According to the Lottery, the couple had some trouble reading some of the numbers from the FAST PLAY Gold Rush Progressive ticket.

However, they saw an online news article that confirmed a $2m FAST PLAY winning ticket was purchased at Mutt’s Liquors.

Recalling this moment, the fortunate winner said: "That was the liquor store where I bought the ticket. I knew it had to be it."

Realizing that they had won the big prize, the couple scheduled an appointment at the Maryland Lottery.

Arriving at the Lottery headquarters on July 1, the couple received a final confirmation that they had indeed won the life-changing progressive jackpot.

Asked about their plans on how they want to spend the unexpected windfall, the duo admitted that they will help their family.

In addition, the lucky winners said they are planning to buy a house.

FAST PLAY Gold Rush Progressive was introduced on July 1, 2024, offering players a chance to win a range of prizes.

With the odds of winning any prize of 1 in 4.75, the game's last sale was made on June 27, 2025, and now appears as closed and no longer for sale, the Maryland Lottery's official website reveals.
