Light & Wonder is set to launch a suite of unique and exclusive Wizard of Oz-themed slot games that will be available on BetMGM’s online casino across the United States and in Ontario, Canada. The first game has already been introduced.
The franchise has already enjoyed popularity at brick-and-mortar properties in general, and Light & Wonder and BetMGM are collaborating to create a fresh experience available for interactive casinos.
The exclusive game development and release have been backed by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, which hold the licensing rights to The Wizard of Oz and which will now make it possible for players at BetMGM Casino to immerse themselves into one of the most persisting myths and stories in American culture.
The games will focus on the familiar characters from the story, including Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow, who will plunge into a number of adventures across the new slot portfolio.
In The Wizard of Oz – Over the Rainbow, players will experience a standard five-by-four online slot game grid where they will come across Glinda the Good Witch, Balloon Jackpots, Free Spins, and Respins, all put together to provide players with the opportunity to win more as they progress.
The game offers you the opportunity to scoop up a jackpot worth 1,000x of the base bet, for some exciting wins overall. The game is already available at BetMGM’s casinos in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and, not least, in the province of Ontario.
This is also the first game to come with more dedicated slot releases to follow throughout 2025 and 2026.
This new and exciting partnership comes at a time when Light & Wonder has confirmed that it will be withdrawing from the live casino vertical. The company explained that it did not feel confident in maintaining a good ratio of return on investment in live casinos.
At around the same time, Light & Wonder announced that it is divesting from the live casino sector, the firm pushed forward with a $1bn deal, acquiring the charitable gaming assets of GroverGaming and G2 Gaming.
