In many ways, Super Bowl 2025 could have been described as a surprise. The closely-matched Kansas City Chiefs faced the Philadelphia Eagles, with the underdogs from Philly eventually sweeping their opponents with 40-22.
President Donald Trump made the first appearance by a sitting US president at the title game, and although operators were betting on the Chiefs to win, they had hedged smartly, resulting in a strong operator-friendly sports betting event all the same.
One of the companies to report robust results immediately in the wake of the Big Game is Flutter Entertainment, whose sportsbook, FanDuel, accepted 16.6m Super Bowl bets placed by three million active users, according to an official statement released by the company.
This was a 19% increase year-over-year, FanDuel explained, detailing the sportsbook activity. The company confirmed that close to three million active accounts have placed the total of bets, with customer activity peaking at 70,000 bets per minute.
Flutter didn’t skip this chance to also laud its own marketing acumen, saying that close to two million people have made a pick on Kick of Destiny 3, and more than one million picked Eli, with each customer now receiving $10 in Bonus Bets.
Fans were once again savvy when it came to the game’s totals results, with the majority predicting a high-scoring game of more than 48.5, Flutter said. Interestingly, though, repeat bets were another trend, with most players betting that the Chiefs and Eagles will replicate their 2023 results – 38 for Kansas and 35 for Eagles.
One player turned their 8-leg Same Game Parlay from a $10 bet into a $7,612.63 payout. The player had bet on the following selections:
Overall, the Big Game was hailed as operator-friendly, as is usually the case. The goal of the Super Bowl’s betting activity is not to just drive up revenue numbers, but rather, translate into longer-term player acquisition.
The American Gaming Association estimated that $1.39bn will be wagered on the Super Bowl, whereas another report took a closer look at the illegal wagering activity associated with the biggest sports betting event in the United States.
