A 30-year-old man from Texas won a life-changing million-dollar prize after trying his luck with a scratch-off ticket in Florida.
The Florida Lottery has announced that a Katy, Texas resident became the latest winner to score $1m from the $1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular scratch-off game.
The fortunate player purchased his winning ticket from Walmart Liquor Box on 1619 Del Prado Boulevard S. in Cape Coral.
To the surprise of the lucky man, he saw his $50 scratch-off ticket turn into a life-changing $1m tier-two prize.
Selling the winning ticket, the lottery retailer will benefit from a $2,000 bonus commission.
Only recently, the Katy resident visited the Florida Lottery's headquarters located in Tallahassee.
The winner chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump sum of $640,000.00.
The lottery player did not reveal how he plans to spend his newfound fortune.
There are more than $1.6bn in cash prizes remaining in play from the $1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular scratch-off game in Florida.
Such games represent an important part of the Florida Lottery's ticket sales.
In fact, for the fiscal 2023-2024 year, 74% of the sales came from scratch-off ticket games.
Nearly 2,300 people have become millionaires thanks to scratch-off games in Florida and more than $65.5bn in prizes have been distributed.
At the launch of the $1,000,000 A Year For Life scratch-off game, there were a total of two top prizes of $1m a year for life.
While none of the top prizes remain in play, there are 54 tier-two prizes of $1m each.
The odds of winning a tier-two prize of $1m are 1 in 185,709.
On the other hand, a tier-three prize awards $50,000 and the odds of winning such a prize are 1 in 120,711. There are 84 such prizes remaining in play.
Many more prizes remain in play within the lower prize tiers between $20,000 and $100.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the $1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular game are 1 in 4.5.
