One lottery player in Florida saw a $5 scratch-off ticket turn into a life-changing million-dollar win.

The Florida Lottery, the government-operated lottery in the state, announced Thursday that a 69-year-old Bradenton resident won a top prize from the Double Your Money scratch-off game.

Double Your Money scratch-off ticket brings $1m to Manatee County resident

The lucky Manatee County resident purchased his winning ticket at Cottage Mini Mart on 6123 26th Street W. in Bradenton.

To the surprise of the lottery player, who tried his luck with the $5 scratch-off game, he scored one of the top prizes for a sweet $1m payout.

The fortunate Bradenton resident visited the Florida Lottery's Headquarters located in Tallahassee.

The 69-year-old man chose to receive his winnings as a one-time lump cash sum of $605,016.40.

The winner did not share any plans regarding the unexpected windfall.

The retailer that sold the winning ticket will benefit from a $2,000 bonus commission.

The scratch-off game offers nearly $52m in prizes

The Florida Lottery's Double Your Money scratch-off game grants players a chance to win a prize between $10 and a top prize of $1m.

The $5 scratch-off ticket game offers overall odds of winning any prize of 1 in 5.67.

The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 3,819,210 and while there were four top prizes at the launch of the ticket, now, two remain in play.

A tier-two prize from the Double Your Money ticket awards $10,000 and the odds of winning such a prize are 1 in 2,182,406. There is one such prize remaining in play.

Within the lower prize tiers, the lottery game offers a range of other prizes that vary in size.

In total, there are nearly $52m in cash prizes from the Double Your Money scratch-off game.
