A woman in North Carolina is looking forward to her retirement after scoring a life-changing second-chance prize.
The North Carolina Education Lottery, the organizer of lottery games and scratch-off ticket sales in the state, announced that a Charlotte woman scored a life-changing second-chance prize.
The fortunate woman entered the $10 Million Spectacular Second Chance drawing and, to her surprise, won the top prize of $1m.
Undoubtedly, this was the lottery player's lucky day, considering that more than 1.9 million entries were submitted for that particular second-chance drawing.
This was the game's third out of a total of four second-chance drawings.
The fortunate winner visited the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters recently to claim her big win.
The woman was presented with the choice to either receive the entire $1m via annuity payments of $50,000 per year for the next 20 years or receive a lump cash sum.
Not unexpectedly, the woman picked the latter option and received $600,000 in a one-time cash payment.
Considering the applicable state and federal taxes, the Charlotte resident's total winnings decreased slightly to $430,500.
Speaking to an official from the Lottery, the lucky player said: "This is crazy. It's just wild. It still hasn't set in yet that this is real."
"I always had lots of hopes and dreams," the Charlotte woman added.
Asked if she had any plans regarding the life-changing win, the winner said that she intends to settle mortgage payments on her house and plans her retirement.
There was a single $1m top prize from the $10 Million Spectacular Second Chance drawing.
However, the second-chance drawing awarded a tier-two prize of $500,000, as well as 10 prizes of $50,000 each.
Lottery players can enter the second chance drawing by scanning lottery tickets via their lottery accounts.
After the third second-chance drawing was organized, players can register their tickets for the final drawing.
The date for the fourth and final $10 Million Spectacular Second Chance drawing is yet to be confirmed.
