Hi there, thanks for your message and for sharing your experience.


In my case, I believe the "incorrect MCC" argument wouldn’t work because Banco Santander already categorizes these transactions as gambling. The real issue is that the casino (Wazamba) is not licensed in Spain and has been officially blocked by the Spanish government (DGOJ), so it’s clearly illegal here.


Also, my funds are still retained within the casino, and I can no longer access them because the website is blocked in Spain. Despite all this, the bank denied my claim, stating that the transactions were "voluntary".


I feel tricked and mistreated because they’re ignoring the illegal nature of the operator in my country, as well as the fact that I’ve been legally self-excluded from gambling since 2020. It’s extremely frustrating that this wasn’t taken into account.

Just keep at it really ! get all your points across I do not know too much about the Spanish laws though but keep fighting do not go away and exploit anything you find that is not right..

I will definitely keep pushing and highlighting everything that’s wrong with how this has been handled. Even if the laws in Spain are different, I know for sure that this operator is illegal here, and I’ve been legally self-excluded since 2020, which should’ve been respected by both the casino and the bank.


I’m actually claiming around €17,000 in total, and I have many laws that back up my case, including the Spanish Gambling Regulation Law and consumer protection laws. Also, according to Mastercard’s dispute policies, I have the right to claim a refund because these transactions were illegitimate and the operator was illegal.


I’ll take your advice and won’t back down. I’m also keeping a close eye on every mistake or inconsistency in their responses — anything that helps strengthen the case.

Hi there no it was not Santander but they are terrible ! I worked for them years ago and just paid off two loans it takes ages you get letters a month late and customer service is poor
