An incredibly lucky lottery player tried her luck for the first time with a Powerball ticket and was pleasantly surprised by a six-figure win.
Last week, a fortunate player in North Carolina decided to give Powerball a try and bought one ticket.
A press release from the North Carolina Education Lottery reveals that the winner's name is Sydney Davis, a Hurdle Mills resident.
The woman purchased her ticket at the Country Store on Hurdle Mills Road in Hurdle Mills.
To the surprise of the player, the first ticket she ever bought for Powerball matched four white balls along with the red Powerball.
Normally, such a match would've granted the player a win of $50,000.
However, Davis' ticket cost $3 as she included the extra Power Play option, which helps multiply non-jackpot prizes.
The draw saw a multiplier of 3X hit, which means that the fortunate woman won $150,000, instead of the standard $50,000 prize.
In an interview for Lottery officials, Davis said: "I couldn't believe it. I had never even done that before."
After she realized that she had won the six-figure prize, the woman wanted her family to also check if that was right.
"We all hardly slept that night after that," Davis recalled about the time she realized she had won $150,000 from Powerball.
The young woman visited the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters on Friday to claim her big prize.
Considering that state and federal taxes apply to lottery winnings, Davis collected a sum of nearly $108,000.
When asked if she had any plans about the windfall, the woman responded that she would put it into savings.
There are less than 12 hours until the next Powerball drawing.
On Saturday, when the latest drawing was scheduled, the winning numbers 23, 29, 32, 49, 61 and the red Powerball number 8 were drawn.
Regretfully, nobody matched all the winning numbers, but this enabled the jackpot to continue growing.
With hours left to go, the top prize from the popular lottery game is estimated at $100m.
The cash value of the Powerball jackpot for the upcoming drawing is $45.3m.
