An incredibly lucky woman saw a $20 scratch-off turn into a life-changing $5m prize after trying her luck with the New York Lottery's Bonus 100X game.
The fortunate Ridgewood resident scored the scratch-off game's first top prize, the Lottery announced earlier this week.
The woman decided to try the $20 Bonus 100X scratch-off game and purchased her ticket at 7 Days Wine & Spirits at 143 Driggs Ave. in Brooklyn.
To the surprise of the lucky player, she won the game's top prize for a $5m payout.
Similar to other top prizes, the woman was given a choice to either collect the full sum via annual installments or take home a one-time lump cash sum.
Not unexpectedly, the Ridgewood resident selected the latter option and collected $2,051,011 after the applicable taxes and withholdings.
The lucky winner did not reveal how she plans to spend her newfound fortune.
As noted, the win marked the first top prize from the Bonus 100X scratch-off game.
With three such prizes remaining in play, the odds of winning one are 1 in 4,473,037.50.
On the other hand, a tier-two prize from the $20 scratch-off game awards $25,000.
In total, there are 25 tier-two prizes of $25,000 remaining in play and the odds of winning one are 1 in 511,204.29.
Lottery players who try their luck with the $20 scratch-off game can also win a tier-three prize of $10,000. While there are 91 such prizes in play, the odds of winning one are 1 in 143,137.10.
In the lower prize tiers, between $5,000 and $20, there are thousands more prizes in play from the Bonus 100X scratch-off ticket.
The odds of winning any prize from the $20 game are 1 in 3.66.
Currently, the New York Lottery is the largest and most profitable lottery in North America.
For the fiscal year 2023-2024, the New York Lottery contributed $3.8bn to public schools across New York State.
On the other hand, scratch-off games generated $4,373,546,208 in total sales for the same period.
Besides a wide range of scratch-off games, the Lottery offers a variety of draw games as well as exciting promotions and events.
