An avid fisherman who recently decided to try his luck with a popular scratch-off ticket in Maryland scored a five-figure payout.

Earlier this week, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that a Dundalk resident, who chose to remain anonymous, reeled in one of the top prizes from the MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off game.

The fan-favorite MONOPOLY scratch-off ticket is a part of the MONOPOLY series, licensed by Scientific Games and distributed by the Maryland Lottery.

The Baltimore County resident recently decided to try his luck after purchasing a $10 ticket for the scratch-off game.

The lucky man made the purchase at Quick Mart 11 on 7801 Wise Avenue in Dundalk.

To the surprise and shock of the fortunate winner, he scored a tier-two prize, turning his $10 ticket into a sweet $50,000 payout.

In an interview with a Lottery official, the Baltimore County man admitted that he initially thought the prize was significantly smaller.

"I thought it was going to be $10 under there. In that case, $500 would have been nice," the fortunate winner recalled.

However, to his shock and surprise, the ticket revealed a $1,000 win, along with a 50X multiplier, granting the lucky fisherman a $50,000 win.

"I couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t expecting that much money," he said.

The fortunate fisherman who works in a warehouse admitted that he doesn't have any grand plans regarding the windfall. Still, he explained that he would likely pay some bills with the win.

MONOPOLY series bring big wins

There's somewhat of a winning streak from the MONOPOLY series recently.

A fortunate Baltimore County player scored the first $50K top prize from MONOPOLY X20.

After that win, a couple won $1m from the MONOPOLY X100 scratch-off ticket.

Focusing on the latest MONOPOLY X50 win, this marked the first tier-two prize of $50,000. After the win, nine more such prizes remain in play.

On the other hand, out of a total of 10 top prizes of $100,000 each, now, eight remain in play.

MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off was introduced early last month.

Offering odds of winning any prize of 1 in 3.29, the $10 scratch-off ticket grants a chance for a win between $10 and a top prize of $100,000.
