A lottery player in Virginia was unhappy after she was given the wrong scratch-off ticket.

However, once the woman scratched off the ticket, her smile came back to her face as a multi-million-dollar prize appeared.

Surprise $2m top prize after lottery player was given the wrong ticket

The Virginia Lottery announced earlier this week that Kelly Lindsay, a Carrollton woman, decided to try her luck with her favorite scratch-off ticket.

Visiting Race Way Carrollton, located at 13028 Carrollton Boulevard, the woman was frustrated after she wasn't given the right ticket.

Still, she decided to give the Money Blitz scratch-off ticket a chance and scratched it off while in the parking lot.

To Lindsay's shock, she won one of the game's top prizes for a sweet $2m payday.

Speaking to Lottery officials, the incredibly lucky woman recalled the moment she realized she had just won $2m saying: "And I got over not being happy about it!"

The chances of winning the top prize from the Money Blitz scratch-off ticket are 1 in 1,142,400.

Still, it looks like that was Linday's lucky day, considering that the top prize win landed in her hands even after she was given the "wrong ticket."

Visiting the Virginia Lottery headquarters, the lucky winner was presented with two options: to collect a lump cash sum or receive the full $2m through annual payments over the next 30 years.

Similar to most players who have won large prizes, Lindsay selected the cash option and her bank account grew by $1,250,000.

Still, it's important to note that the aforementioned sum is before the applicable state and federal taxes.

The lucky Carrollton woman did not disclose if she had any plans about the unexpected windfall.

One top prize of $2m remains unclaimed

It was back in October 2022 when the Virginia Lottery introduced Money Blitz.

The scratch-off ticket costs $20 per play and grants a chance for a prize between $20 and a top prize of $2m.

After the recent top prize win, only one $2m prize remains unclaimed.

On the other hand, the scratch-off ticket also offers tier-two prizes of $20,000 each.

While initially, there were six such prizes in play, now only three remain up for grabs.

The overall odds of winning any prize from the $20 scratch-off ticket are 1 in 3.29.
