An incredibly lucky woman in Florida was able to beat the odds of 1 in 3m to win a life-changing $1m prize from a popular scratch-off game.
On Monday this week, the Florida Lottery announced that a 55-year-old Tarpon Springs resident won one of the top prizes from its $5 scratch-off game, The Cash Wheel.
The fortunate woman decided to give the $5 scratch-off ticket a try and was surprised by a life-changing win.
She purchased her winning ticket at Publix at 40932 U.S. Highway 19 N. in Tarpon Springs.
Considering that the retailer sold one of the top prizes from The Cash Wheel scratch-off game, they will benefit from a $2,000 bonus commission.
The Tarpon Springs resident visited the Florida Lottery headquarters located in Tallahassee to claim the big win.
The woman was presented with a choice to either collect the full sum through annuity payments or take home a one-time lump cash sum.
It's no surprise that she picked the latter option and saw her bank account increase by $605,016.40.
Despite winning one of the game's top prizes, the lucky winner did not reveal if she had any plans on how to spend the unexpected fortune.
Each The Cash Wheel scratch-off ticket costs $5 per play and it offers players a chance to win a prize between $6 and $1m.
The odds of winning the top prize of $1m are 1 in 2,963,170 and while there were a total of six such prizes when the scratch-off game was launched, now, two remain in play.
On the other hand, a tier-two prize awards $10,000 and the odds of winning such a prize are 1 in 216,817.
Overall, there are 40 tier-two prizes of $10,000 each up for grabs.
A tier-three prize awards $5,000 and the odds of winning such a prize from The Cash Wheel scratch-off game are 1 in 59,263. There are 154 such prizes in play.
Many more prizes from the lower tiers, between $1,000 and $6, remain in play from the popular scratch-off game.
The overall odds of winning any prize from The Cash Wheel scratch-off ticket are 1 in 4.05.
