A couple from Oakland County in Michigan had an unforgettable wedding anniversary after scoring a multi-million-dollar scratch-off win.

The fortunate couple won one of the top prizes from the Michigan Lottery's Diamonds & Gold instant game for a sweet $2m payout.

The winning ticket was purchased at Opdyke Featherstone Mobil at 810 North Opdyke Road in Auburn Hills.

The latest top prize leaves only one $2m prize in play from the popular scratch-off ticket.

The lucky 44-year-old woman, who chose to remain anonymous, recently visited the Lottery headquarters to claim the big win.

As is usual for big prizes, she was given the option to either collect the full prize via annuity payments or take home a lump cash sum.

Not unexpectedly, the woman picked the latter option and saw her bank account increase by approximately $1.3m.

Asked about her plans on how she would spend the money, the woman said that she will invest some of her winnings, buy a house and put some money on the side for her children's college funds.

Suzanna Shkreli, the Michigan Lottery's Commissioner, shared her excitement regarding the latest win.

"Congratulations to the lucky player and her husband who had a day they will never forget after winning $2 million on their wedding anniversary," she explained.

Finally, Shkreli pointed out: "It is great to hear that the prize will also have a positive impact on their children by helping fund their future education."

The $2m top prize was the best surprise on the couple's anniversary

Speaking to an official from the Michigan Lottery, the fortunate winner admitted that she and her husband often play scratch-off games.

Acknowledging that they like the Diamonds & Gold instant game, the woman recalled the moment her husband saw the "2MIL" text on the ticket.

"We scratched this ticket off together on our wedding anniversary and my husband noticed the $2m prize first. He thought something wasn’t right, so we took it to the store to scan it," the woman explained.

Once at the store, the couple saw a message asking them to file a claim with the Michigan Lottery.

Having more doubts about the win, they went on to ask a friend to scan the ticket via the Lottery app.

"I started shaking and was in total shock when $2m came up on the screen. It was so exciting and the best surprise on our anniversary," the lucky woman added.

Besides one top prize of $2m, players who purchase the $20 scratch-off ticket have a chance to win prizes between $5,000 and $20.

Out of 40 tier-two prizes of $5,000 each, now, 20 remain in play. On the other hand, there are more than 100 tier-three prizes of $2,000, along with many more in the lower prize tiers.

The overall odds of winning any prize from the Diamonds & Gold instant game are 1 in 3.64.
